Veronika champions science at the
W.J. McCallion Planetarium
Veronika introduces the far reaches of the galaxy to our next generation of scientists. Vernonika is part of the team of planetarium presenters who deliver custom tours to community members of all ages. McMaster’s planetarium was the first in Ontario to offer public shows in 1950. The Faculty of Science added a portable planetarium in 2022 to bring the planets and stars to communities that face barriers to travelling to McMaster.
Any amount of science communication and outreach is important because it contributes to strengthening science literacy. Becoming interested in science and feeling confident enough to ask science-related questions is an incredibly important skill for people of all ages and backgrounds. Every time I talk with someone at the planetarium about galaxies or black holes, I hope they go home a little more curious about the world around us and motivated to go out and find answers to their questions about science.
