Laurel champions science as the director of the
McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind (MIMM)
Laurel has made science communication and community outreach a key priority for the McMaster Institute for Music and Mind. The institute invites the community to an annual research concert series in LIVELab, a 106-seat research-based performance theatre. The institute also hosts an annual NeuroMusic Conference and Keynote Concert where prominent international music cognition researchers share their latest research studies with diverse audiences of psychologists, neuroscientists, musicians, educators, graduate and undergraduate students and community members.
Scientific discoveries change all of our lives. I’m passionate about sharing new knowledge, and particularly new understanding of how music can be harnessed for brain, body and mental health.
