Shawn champions science with
Science is a Drag
Shawn. who earned his Ph.D. in Cancer Biology and Epidemology at McMaster, builds science literacy while also challenging cis-heternormative stereotypes in science. Together with Dr. Samantha Yammie and Dr. Geith Maal-Bared and in partnership with RCI Science, Shawn launched Science is a Drag. Their sold-out shows combine drag performances with science presentations for audiences of all ages.
Standard scientific publishing is somewhat of an echo chamber for scientists to share our findings amongst ourselves and not with the broader communities that will eventually benefit from our cutting-edge discoveries. Engaging with communities outside of our scientific bubbles in meaningful ways helps us to be more innovative as scientists and fosters an environment where we can incorporate the community's questions into our own research projects.
