Oakville’s Emma Mogus and Toronto’s Behrad Dehnadi are starting their first year at McMaster as the Faculty of Science’s 2016 Schulich Leaders. The Schulich Leader Scholarships program supports high-performing students at leading Canadian universities, including McMaster.
Congratulations to Science’s researchers, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who received research funding from multiple programs of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science made the official announcement on campus and stressed the importance of discovery research. Science researchers are among 100 McMaster researchers who benefited from over $15.7 million granted to the University. Among the awards announced, faculty members Sigal Balshine, Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour; Soo Hyun Byun, Physics & Astronomy; Ian Dworkin, Biology; and Gail Wolkowicz, Mathematics & Statistics received Discovery Accelerator Supplements to further fuel their research programs.

The Faculty congratulates Haichao Zhang, Biology and Psychology, and Aaron Goldberg, Integrated Science, winners of a Governor General’s Academic Medal. The Governor General’s Academic Medal is awarded to the student graduating from a first baccalaureate degree program who has attained the highest standing throughout the program; McMaster has the honour of awarding two of these medals each year. Medals are being awarded at the Spring Convocation.
