We celebrate faculty members who have been honoured with recognition for their efforts and achievements following the path laid by some of the founders of the Faculty of Science. The Faculty is the home faculty of Bertram Brockhouse (1918-2003), winner of 1994 Nobel Prize in Physics and a pioneer in inelastic neutron scattering. World-recognized work in this discipline continues on campus today and the Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research was named in his honour. Another luminary, Henry George Thode (1910-1997), served as McMaster University’s second President and Vice Chancellor, from 1961 to 1972. As a scientist, Dr. Thode is known for his contributions to the field of nuclear science and geochemistry, including building the first mass spectrometer in Canada. Thode Library is named in his honour.
*Note: The School Of Geography & Earth Sciences Changed Its Name To The School Of Earth, Environment & Society In July 2020.
