Thinking Outside The Bog In The Ecohydrology Lab
It was the first stop in Maureen’s year-long tour of labs in the Faculty of Science. The students presented their research into how to restore rock barren habitats for reptiles after there’s been a fire. The students also talked their experiences doing field work in Northern Ontario. During her visit, Maureen also initiated a conversation with students about ensuring their continued safety and well-being and staying free from harassment whether on campus, doing fieldwork or attending conferences.
Along with hosting Maureen, the students took over the Faculty of Science Instagram account for the day. The students recorded videos that showcased the wetlands where they’re conducting their research.
In his lab, Mike leads a team of three postdoctoral research fellows, two PhD students, seven Masters of Science students and three Bachelor of Science interns. The McMaster Ecohydrology Lab is focused on integrative water and ecosystem science for boreal wetland conservation, restoration and management. This past summer, Mike published an editorial in The Conversation Canada on how to fight wildfires and climate change with wetlands.
