New Associate Dean, Research & External Relations appointed

Gillian Goward has been appointed Associate Dean, Research & External Relations in McMaster University’s Faculty of Science for a five-year term pending Governance approval.
Gillian is succeeding Juliet Daniel who is now serving as Special Advisor to the President.
The current Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Gillian is an internationally recognized researcher who studies advanced energy materials using a combination of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging.
GShe holds the McMaster Faculty of Science Research Chair in Magnetic Resonance of Materials for Energy Storage and leads the Magnetic Resonance & Materials for Energy Storage Lab.
Over the course of her career, Gillian’s secured more than $12 million in research funding, worked with industry partners from start-ups to large automotive manufacturers and academic collaborators from across Canada and around the world. Last month, Gillian was awarded $1.1 million over three years with a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Alliance Missions: Critical Minerals Research grant.
She has also supervised more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
And earlier this year, Gillian was one of three faculty to receive the McMaster University Faculty Association’s 2024 Award for Outstanding Service.
