PhD student in peatland ecohydrological modelling (May or September, 2019)
We have a PhD graduate student opening starting in the 2019 academic year with a preferred start of May or September, 2019. Applicants should have a background in hydrology, ecology and/or soil science and a working knowledge of ecosystems and/or hydrological modelling. The Peatland Hydrological Impacts Model will be used to examine the effects of drought and wildfire on boreal peatland ecosystem form and function. This position is supported by funds through the Boreal Water Futures initiative. PhD or MSc student in reptiles at risk ecohydrology and habitat restoration (May or September, 2019)
We have a graduate student opening starting in the 2019 academic year with a preferred start of May or September, 2019. Applicants should have a background in hydrology, ecology, biogeochemistry and/or soil science. Previous field research experience is an asset. Field work research takes place in Ontario's near-north at the Northern Ontario Barrens and Bog Ecosystems Landscape (NOBEL). 2 x BSc research assistants (Summer, 2019)
We provide capstone job training opportunities for up to three B.Sc. research assistants each summer. Our research assistants are trained in field and/or laboratory methods in hydrology, ecology and soil science at our sites in northern Ontario or northern Alberta. NSERC USRA scholarship eligible students and students interested in completing a 4th year thesis are given priority. Students with a GPA of A- or higher are welcome to apply by emailing a cover letter, resume and list of marks to Dr. Waddington by December 15, 2018 (in exceptional cases we will accept applications until January 15, 2019).
2 x BSc research internships (September, 2018 and January, 2019) ** POSITIONS FILLED (no longer available)
We provide capstone research and training opportunities for several B.Sc. students each academic year through our volunteer internship program. Interns are trained in field and/or laboratory methods in hydrology, ecology and soil science preparing them for thesis research and job opportunities in the following summer. BSc interns volunteer several hours a week and are introduced to our research through weekly meetings and optional conference attendance. We accept applications from students in the Honours Biology and Environmental Science, Honours Environmental Science, and Honours Earth and Environmental Sciences programs. Our internships qualify for EarthSc 3IN3 and EarthSc 4IN3 courses in the School of Earth, Environment & Society. Students with a GPA of A- or higher are welcome to apply by emailing a cover letter, resume and list of courses and marks to Dr. Waddington by September 15, 2018.
