I investigate how the structure and composition of the brain give rise to function, with an emphasis on the outermost portion of the brain called the cerebral cortex. My lab develops in vivo techniques for mapping the properties of the cortex using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computational neuroimaging. This comprehensive research includes experiments to develop novel imaging approaches in animals and humans, studies to determine how a healthy cortex promotes healthy thoughts and behaviours, and studies primarily in mental disorders to learn how disruptions in the cortex might underlie disordered thought processes.
