If I have already completed an EE course, may I take another?

Normally, students may apply to complete a combination of ONE Applied Placement course and ONE Research Practicum course, provided the projects are focused on different topics and have different academic and placement supervisors. Students may be allowed to complete more than one internship (Science 3IE0), with permission of the Manager, Science Career & Cooperative Education.

What are the requisites for EE courses?

SCIENCE 3EP3/3EX6

  • Credit or registration in SCIENCE 2C00 (if applying to SCIENCE 3EP3/3EX6)
  • Registration in Level III or above of a program in the Faculty of Science
  • Approval of a completed application form submitted to the course coordinator by the stated deadline.

SCIENCE 3RP3

  • Registration in Level 3 or above of a program in the Faculty of Science
  • Approval of a completed application form submitted to the course coordinator by the stated deadline.

SCIENCE 3IE0

  • Completion of SCIENCE 2C00 and all mandatory orientation activities
  • Registration in Level 2 or 3 of an Honours program in the Faculty of Science, with at least 18 units of course work left to complete
  • Approval of a completed internship form submitted to the Manager, Science Career & Cooperative Education.

Can I take an EE course AND complete an Independent Study/Thesis course in the same session?

Students may apply to complete an Applied Placement course, OR a Research Practicum course in addition to an independent study or thesis course, provided the projects are on different topics and have different supervisors.

Where and how do I find an Academic and/or Placement Supervisor?

While the SCCE is not responsible for finding an Academic or Placement supervisor for students, SCCE staff can provide tips and tools to assist students with the process of finding a supervisor. Students are encouraged to:

  • Use their academic or personal networks to make contact with potential supervisors.
  • Review department and websites and the work done by each professor – make a connection to the type of experience they are looking to have.

What is a Learning Contract?

The Learning Contract is a required component of the EE application form. In the contract, the student and academic supervisor jointly determine specific learning objectives, methods of evaluation and timelines for completion of work throughout the experience.
