Rosa da Silva honoured with university award

Rosa da Silva, an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and the incoming Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies for the Faculty of Science, has received a 2023 President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning.
The award is McMaster’s highest distinction given to faculty members for their teaching excellence. Award recipients are nominated by peers, University leaders or partners within the campus community. Nominations are evaluated by a selection committee appointed by the president, with the award recipients being recognized during Convocation ceremonies.
Rosa was recognized for creating active learning environment in her courses that encourages social involvement, inquiry-based learning and independent study among students. Rosa received a 2021 Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations Teaching Award (OCUFA). She is also a two-time winner of the McMaster Students Union’s Innovation Award and, in 2020, was part of a team that received the President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning.
Rosa and seven other faculty members received President’s Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning, including Assistant Professor Sharonna Greenberg with the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology.
