I am developing a neutron detector using a solid state alternative to 3He as a converter. The detector will also use a THGEM and readout plane to achieve 2D position resolution. This will be a low cost alternative to current 3He detectors used for customs security and the 2D capabilities will allow it to be used for neutron imaging applications.
I am a regular presenter at the McMaster Planetarium. I became involved with them during my MSc in which I studied Nuclear Astrophysics and have written two of my own hour long shows, Ancient Astronomy and Celestial Navigation.
I will likely still be involved with my MSc supervisors research. I developed an ion beam discriminator as my MSc thesis and will be involved in its implementation at the DRAGON laboratory at TRIUMF. I will likely be involved in some experiments utilizing it to measure reactions rates of astrophysical nucleosynthesis reactions.
