All courses for every first-year Science student will be delivered online this fall. A limited number of students in their second, third and fourth years will return to campus for part of the semester.

Science Professor to Lead Fields Institute

Congratulations to Walter Craig, Mathematics & Statistics, on his appointment as the new Director of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. The Fields Institute, based in Toronto, is an international centre for research and training in all areas of the mathematical sciences and their applications. Walter’s term as director began July 1, and will last for the next three years. Matheus Grasselli, Mathematics & Statistics, currently serves as deputy director at the Fields.



Remembering Brian McCarry

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Brian McCarry, Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology. In addition to being a leading researcher and teacher, Brian was a positive and caring colleague who inspired all who worked with him. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and many former students. Science Convocation Spring 2013

Congratulations to the Class of 2013! With over 1,000 degrees earned, a huge amount of hard work and dedication are being celebrated. The Faculty of Science also recognizes the first graduating class of 27 students from the Integrated Science Program or iSc. Best of luck for the future to all our graduates.


Early Career Award for David Feinberg

The Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science awarded David Feinberg, Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour, its Early Career Award. David’s lab at McMaster studies topics related to the perception of voices and faces. He is best known for his work on vocal attractiveness, and studies voice and face perception from evolutionary, cognitive, and social perspectives; integrating methods from acoustical phonetics, psychophysics, face and processing, and behavioural ecology.
