Moment Mentor Memento podcast ep. 8 with experimental physicist Pat Clancy
“One of the best things about experimental physics is the toys,” says McMaster University assistant professor Pat Clancy in the Department of Physics & Astronomy. One of those “toys” is the McMaster Nuclear Reactor – it’s where Pat and his research group use neutrons to discover and create new quantum materials.
Pat talks with journalist in residence Jeff Goodes about his research, a defining moment in his career (a stint at the Chalk River Laboratories during the summer before his 3rd year of undergrad at St. Francis Xavier University), an outstanding mentor (Bruce Gaulin) and a pair of mementos – including a broken Magic 8 ball that he’s been carting around since grad school.
