Meet New Faculty Member – Robert Cockcroft

“I was inspired by family, friends, and enthusiastic and kind teachers who supported my passion for science. I was good at math and physics in high school and knew that I needed to do something at university that would challenge me. Astrophysics fit the criteria.
“I teach Astronomy, Physics, and in the Honours Integrated Science Program. I’m also interested in contributing to Indigenous scholars with Indigenous Astronomy. I believe that decolonization is extremely important and that I can, and should, contribute however I can.”
Robert completed a four-year MSci at University College London, UK. He completed his MSc and PhD at McMaster with Bill Harris. Robert did one postdoc with Sarah Symons in ancient Egyptian astronomy and a second postdoc with Beth Marquis in pedagogical research. He then spent four years as a contract faculty member at Western University in Physics and Astronomy and the Western Integrated Science Program. When not at work, Robert enjoys playing stringed instruments, swing dancing, running, tennis and learning Japanese.
