Program: Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour

Hometown: Windsor, ON

Favourite course:

Child Language Acquisition (LINGUIST 3C03). It combined my love for child development and linguistics. The content was super interesting and although it was online we got to do a lot of great projects like a data blitz competition.

Person you’re most grateful to have met at Mac:

I am most thankful to have met my boyfriend Josh. We met in November of my first year at Mac and have been inseparable since. Growing together and celebrating so many milestones over the past three years has been so gratifying.

Best Mac moment:

My best moment at Mac no doubt was getting into my dream master’s program. With only a few options for Speech-Language Pathology in Ontario, I knew it would be a competitive process. From completing my minor in Linguistics to my thesis in the McMaster Baby Lab, I did everything I could to make sure I would be a strong applicant. Still, I was a nervous wreck in the months leading up to April 1st, when I knew admission decisions would go out. Opening the portal at midnight on April 1st to an acceptance still feels like a dream and I am so thrilled to be headed to Western for my dream program!

Person you’ll be most proud to show your degree to?

I will be most proud to show my parents my degree. They have supported me in countless ways over the past four years and in a way, my degree is a symbol of all of the love and support they have given me.

Best advice / insider tip for Mac students starting in September:

My biggest piece of advice sounds really cheesy but it’s to believe in yourself and be confident. When I look back on my undergrad journey, I realize that I accomplished so much more than I ever thought I could, but I doubted myself every step of the way. Now that it’s over, my biggest regret is not enjoying every moment more and trusting that things would work out in the end. Some of my biggest and best moments could have been even better if I was just a little bit more confident and less nervous in the weeks leading up to them. There were also so many opportunities that I’m sure I missed out on just because I thought I wasn’t good enough to apply. In the end, my undergrad journey could have been even better if I had just focused on what I could control instead of worrying that I wasn’t good enough for the things I wanted.
