Who Can Take Part:
All undergraduate and graduate students in McMaster’s Faculty of Science.
What We’re Looking For:
Cool photos and images taken by students that showcase their lab work, fieldwork, course work, thesis projects, community outreach projects, and co-ops. Photos and images can also capture the art and wonder of scientific phenomena in our everyday lives.
What Can You Win:
If your photo or image is one of the 13 chosen by a judging panel of students, faculty and staff, you will receive:
- A $100 gift card
- A large format framed print of your photo or image
Your photo or image will also be:
- Published in the Faculty of Science’s 2023 calendar
- Featured on the Faculty of Science social media accounts
- Displayed in an exhibit in the Burke Science Building
Deadlines:
Photos and images can be submitted any time during the year until Friday, Nov. 4, 2022.

The Fine Print:
The photo and image contest is open to all McMaster University Faculty of Science undergraduate and graduate students. The contest is not open to faculty members, staff, postdoctoral fellows or alumni at this time.
Each student can submit up to three original photos or images. Single photos or images only – no collages please.
All photos and images must be:
- in focus and require no editing
- print quality (minimum of 300 dpi)
- taken in landscape
- saved in .jpeg format, and
- at least 1-2 MB in size
Anyone who is featured in a photograph or image is required to complete McMaster University’s Multimedia Consent General Release Form.
Students give permission for their photos, images and full names to be used in the Faculty of Science calendar, social media accounts and Dean’s Office gallery.
Photos and images submitted to the contest must not infringe upon or violate any laws or third-party rights, including (but not limited to) copyright, patent, trademark, or other proprietary rights and must not lead to any cause of action against McMaster University, including libel, defamation, privacy violation, contract breach, or tort.
Students who submit photos or images to the contest agree to hold McMaster University harmless from and against any suits, claims, losses, damages, and expenses, including reasonable attorney fees that may arise from or in connection with the use or display of the applicant(s)’ photo(s) or image(s).
The Dean’s Office will notify students if their photos or images have been selected for the calendar, gallery and greeting cards.
